Detecting Salient Motion by Accumulating Directionally-Consistent Flow
نویسندگان
چکیده
ÐMotion detection can play an important role in many vision tasks. Yet image motion can arise from auninterestingo events as well as interesting ones. In this paper, salient motion is defined as motion that is likely to result from a typical surveillance target (e.g., a person or vehicle traveling with a sense of direction through a scene) as opposed to other distracting motions (e.g., the scintillation of specularities on water, the oscillation of vegetation in the wind). We propose an algorithm for detecting this salient motion that is based on intermediate-stage vision integration of optical flow. Empirical results are presented that illustrate the applicability of the proposed methods to real-world video. Unlike many motion detection schemes, no knowledge about expected object size or shape is necessary for rejecting the distracting motion. Index TermsÐMotion detection, optical flow, vegetation, motion salience.

متن کاملVideo Saliency Detection via Dynamic Consistent Spatio-Temporal Attention Modelling
Human vision system actively seeks salient regions and movements in video sequences to reduce the search effort. Modeling computational visual saliency map provides important information for semantic understanding in many real world applications. In this paper, we propose a novel video saliency detection model for detecting the attended regions that correspond to both interesting objects and do...
متن کاملDetection of Salient Regions in Crowded Scenes
ELECT The increasing number of cameras and a handful of human operators to monitor the video inputs from hundreds of cameras leave the system ill equipped to fulfil the task of detecting anomalies. Thus, there is a dire need to automatically detect the regions that require immediate attention for more effective and proactive surveillance. A framework that utilises the temporal variations in the...
متن کاملA Directionally Selective Motion-detecting Neurone in the Brain of the Locust: Physiological and Morphological Characterization
1. The anatomy and physiology of a directionally selective motion-detecting (DSMD) neurone in the locust are described. The neurone was descending, with the cell body in the protocerebrum. The axon lay in the dorsolateral quadrant of the nerve cord and has been traced as far as the metathoracic ganglion. It arborized, ipsilateral to the cell body, from the dorsal intermediate tract (DIT) in the...
متن کاملThe role of central and peripheral vision in postural control during walking.
Three hypotheses have been proposed for the roles of central and peripheral vision in the perception and control of self-motion: (1) peripheral dominance, (2) retinal invariance, and (3) differential sensitivity to radial flow. We investigated postural responses to optic flow patterns presented at different retinal eccentricities during walking in two experiments. Oscillating displays of radial...
